Initial consolation when great. Everybody was super nice. Doctor was very honest about what he could and could not do and provided recommendation and advise to help get exactly what was needed in a cost effective way

I’ve had such a great experience with this orthodontic office. The staff is always kind, welcoming, and professional, and they truly make you feel comfortable every visit. Everything is explained clearly, and I always feel like my care genuinely matters. I’m so happy with my progress and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an orthodontist.

Great service! The employees are very kind and positive. They were also very informative after each visit and kept me up to date with information regarding the process of getting braces on, maintaining my braces and teeth while I had them, and getting them off. Thank you!
So far, 3 of my children have had braces and 2 more are being monitored and will start treatment when they have lost enough baby teeth. While my oldest 2 daughters had braces on, I decided to have my 8 and 9 year old sons checked as well. Dr. Richards had x-rays done, and discovered my 9 year old son had an underdeveloped jaw. He recommended my son wear a Frankel appliance for 18 months at bedtime, which literally grew new lower jaw bone while he slept and eliminated the need for costly jaw surgery later on. My 8 year old son needed a palate expander on the top because his upper jaw was not wide enough. Both of these issues need to be detected early, by the time a child is about 9, because they are going through major growth spurts, which enable knew bone to be grown. SmileMakers did not charge us for x-rays and treatment recommendations. No charge until you accept the treatment plan. I would not have known my boys had a problem that could have been treated before braces went on if I would have had to pay for consultation. I decided to have them checked since my oldest girls were also being followed early on. I highly recommend everyone have their children's teeth checked by an orthodontist by the time they are 8 to see if early treatment can be started to help prevent surgery or lengthy braces treatment. The Frankel device my 9 year old wore, shortened the length of braces treatment. And my 8 year old only had to wear a palate expander for 6 months, and now he is ready to start braces. I still have 3 more children (7 children in total) and we will continue treatment at SmileMakers. I also appreciate that the orthodontists at SmileMakers do not rush to put braces on until enough teeth have fallen out and adult teeth have come in. We love the warm, friendly staff, the chocolate chip cookies, the video game room, the coffee for the parents, and the rewards program. We Love Coastal Carolina Orthodontics.
